Is There Still Oil Produced at Moonie?
YES! Moonie Oilfields is still producing oil and now owned by Bridgeport. Although the oil isn’t flowing quite as fast as during the 60’s and they don’t pump it through the pipelines anymore, there is enough to keep the trucks busy
Where to from Moonie Crossroads?
Moonie is located at the Cross Roads of two major regional QLD highways: The Moonie Highway (Dalby/St George/Gunamulla) & Leichhardt Highway (Goondiwindi/Miles/Rocky)
Moonie is unusual in that (although not that remote) is approximately 100km in any direction from other services/towns.
The Moonie Crossroads
Established in the 60’s to service the oilfields, Moonie Crossroads is now a well established Shell Service Station/Roadhouse/Motel/Hotel/Caravan Park offering a range of services and products to the local community, traveling public and the transport sector.
Facilities at Moonie
Phone – We have set up our own operators but Telstra is the only reliable service.
Water – Like most small western towns, Moonie relies on Bore Water, we’re used to it but you might find the taste not to your liking.
Waste – No Sewerage in Moonie so no pump out facilities and like all towns relying on septic systems we really appreciate your cooperation.
TV – Not really except in the Motel & Roadhouse. We have Foxtel.
